The impact of Iraqi elections on punditry

February 19, 2005

Austin Bay says that Iraqi elections have become the "defining moment" in punditry and coverage of the war in Iraq (link via Instapundit); I agree. I expected the media would need a specific event to use to mark a shift in the overarching narrative from neverending cries of "quagmire" to a more realistic depiction of the progress made and challenges faced by the coalition and the Iraqis. It seems that this is it. Personally, I had hoped that this change would occur after the capture of Saddam, but better late than never.
