Sympathy for Saddam

October 19, 2005

From American Future, the New York Times quotes a Sunni arab who is disheartened by Saddam’s Trial:

I felt sorry. I almost cried. Every country in the world has terrorism. All the presidents of this region torture their people. Why, of all the countries, do they come after us?

What a dreadful, sickening statement to make. I assume that this woman and her family were not among those on the receiving end of the torture that she so casually dismisses. This type of attitude will need to change if the Arab world is ever to truly provide freedom for its people. American Future has lots more coverage on day one of the trial. Day two won’t come for another month or so.
